(ASCEND) RADIUS Replacement
IDEA has developed R-home(tm) - for "Reach Home," available in compiled
binaries or source, a free drop in replacement for RADIUS.
See: http://www.auidea.org/ftprhome.html AND specifically
http://www.auidea.org/dwnld.html
R-home(tm) has:
support of threads
cleaner code base
the same code base for Unix (SunOS, OSF, Linux) and NT
IDEA Network(tm) roaming/wholesale-exchange built into code
Threading the code, for those operating systems that support threading,
significately improves the performance and reliability of the R-home(tm)
server.
The code was rewritten as threaded code (forking is also available for
those systems which cannot handle threading), and will do remote
encrypted authentication
(using Public/Private key encryption rather than Kerberos), which is
essential for our R-home(tm) service. The code is available with all the
above capabilities for LINUX, NT, Solaris, HP UX, DEC OSF, AIX, IRIX and
BSDI. That covers most all the operating systems which would be serving
the RADIUS application. Any others that have a demand can be provided
when needed also. Finally,
IDEA added some functionality to the code that RADIUSD did not provide,
mostly dealing with the R-home(tm) application, but useful in other ways
also.
In addition to releasing our R-Home authentication and accounting
server for general beta test, we are conducting a limited beta test
in which we will work closely with IDEA members and others in testing one
or more distributions of our R-Home authentication/accounting server.
The objective of this limited beta test is to acquire quality test
feedback in an expedient manner. We current have R-home running on
Ascend and other NAS products. In return for your cooperation, we
would waive any applicable IDEA setup fee.
