As others have suggested, I would heartily recommend using a true router
for this. The Max 4000 is a NAS and as such isn't nearly as robust as a
dedicated router. If you need high bandwidth connections, high performance
and scalability, the Ascend GRF is the best choice for this. If you just
have an E1, then a low-end router would do.
The TNT is a multi-processor system and as such can be more robust in it's
routing capabilities. It should have BGP sometime in 1998. I'm not sure of
the exact date.
