Re: (ASCEND) Static IP's for dialin
We had some very pissed off customers who were using ISDN, but
I would assume this applies to modems also. Several ISDN customers
were receiving $2000 phone bills even though their ISDN TA's were
supposed to be dropping the link during inactivity. We watched as
modem or dial-in users connected and did nothing yet still received and
transmitted almost continuous small packets about every 30 seconds.
If this setting is set to:
Framed-Routing = Broadcast-Listen,
your users will continuously receive RIP broadcasts. Unless you have
users with Subnets dialling in and using the default Radius Authentication,
there is no need for RIP across a user port. So, we did a test a made
to identical logins with one set to:
Framed-Routing = Listen,
and the other
Framed-Routing = Broadcast-Listen,
and lo and behold, the first one was able to let the user drop his link when
it became inactive. We have had several customers complaining of $2K
phone bills due to this minor oversight!
