What it generally means is that the phone connection dropped without the session being terminated. Sometimes this will be a telco problem, but most often it happens when the remote modem drops the connection due to excessive errors or signal interruption. My first guess would be noisy lines somewhere. Try having them turn off hardware error control on their modems, and increase the modem timeout to something really high. This should keep the modem from dropping the connection under most circumstances. You may also want to get the telco involved, especially if the customers experiencing the problems live in the same general area.
