The MAX40xx line simply doesn't have the ability to do BGP4, just like the Pipeline 400 can't do OSPF. Maybe when they introduce the MAX8000 (fiction product) with tons of processor (200 Mhz Mips) and 128Mb of RAM, then it may be capable of doing BGP4. Until then, it's not happening.
