>Andy, I had the same problem with the Channelized T1s with both >AMI/SF and B8ZS/ESF. The Telco is using Northern Telecom DMS100 >switches. The only way I could get anything at all higher than >33.6 was to replace the T1s with PRI circuits. I now get as >good as 48000 and have tried several K56Flex modems. I would be interested to know if anyone is getting higher connect speeds than 42000 with channelized T1's. The phone company above just probably didn't have their T1's set up properly. We had to add a 4db pad trunk to trunk on our Nortel DMS-10 before we could get any 56flex connection. This is not standard for a telephone company. Usually padding is added line to trunk on EAS and Toll trunks. If it is a phone company that is inexperienced with ISP's(Like we were when we started) they may not know how to set up the correct padding on the trunks. Now we get 42000 maximum. I'm going to make an assumption here and someone please tell me if they see anything different. A channel in a T1 circuit is 64kb but 8 kb of this is used for signalling so you really don't have use of the full channel. With a PRI trunk you have a full 64kb to play with because the signalling is done out of band in the D channel. This difference in 8kb would explain the differences that people receive in maximum rates. 50000 for a PRI, 42000 for a channelized T1. Therefore, if the T1 trunks are setup correctly you will be able to use 56flex but your max will top out about 42000, maybe 44000 in rare instances. Going to PRI would give you the 50000 to 52000's that others are talking about. Unfortunately, I cannot do PRI with my DMS-10 yet so much of this is derived from what I've heard others say about their connect speeds and circuits. If anyone has gotten connect speeds above 42-44k on channelized T1 I would love to know how and what switch the telco is serving these maxes with.
