Big company, different groups. They were selling MAXen before Livingston
created the PM-3, and LONG before December 1997 when they merged. The
consulting and integration group was using all Ascend HW, and they have
inertia in that direction. I've heard that they are handling both lines
now and that is likely to increase as Lucent RABU produces more products
like the PM-4, redesigned Office Routers (in progress now), and other work.
This isn't odd - I work for GTEI, which was BBN. GTEI sells networking
services, so do GTE's CLEC and ILEC groups. We have products they do not, and
vice-versa. It has been over a year since the merger and they are still doing
cross-training and rolling the product lines together. Can't wait to see what
happens with the Bell Atlantic merger now.
