One need not use a product oneself to comment on it. I have been involved
in countless RADIUS installations involving Ascend gear. I've advised on,
tested, submitted to, or used numerous RADIUS servers and had to deal with
Ascend being the exception to the rule. I work for a company that does
use Ascend gear - MAX4000 & 6000 - in hundreds of POPs, and I regularly
see the issues we have with the HW itself, as well as the customers (we do
outsourcing) who need to do non-standard things on their end because Ascend
has not seen fit to follow the spec. I have personally worked on deals
that were lost because of RADIUS issues and the MAX. I personally do not
work in the DiaLinx implementaiton group, so I don't work with the MAXen
directly. I do work with the product that utilizes them. I have worked
with MAXen in the past, and I'm glad I no longer do so regularly.

You have yet to answer any of my direct questions on the issues, yet
continue to call my statements uninformed. I keep harping on it because
the RADIUS issues have been a thorn in my side especially of late, when
I've been working with others on implementations, both as part of my 'day
job' and on the side. It wouldn't be so frustrating if there appeared to
be any logic to the decisions made.

As for the particular post you replied to - did I not indicate those were *my
predicitons* and that only time will tell? They aren't uneducated - anyone
can compare the features and capabilities of the products concerned to see
which has the most potential. And I do still talk with folks in Lucent who
sometimes tell me things perhaps they shouldn't, like the engineering plans
going forward. One can also examine the history of industry mergers and
product lives post-merger.

The predictions I made are mine, and represent only my opinions based on
product data, grapevine, announced plans, etc. That's what I believe will
happen, or something close to it. If I'm wrong feel free to laugh at me
heartily when the time comes. I've been wrong before, but right more often.

Either way it doesn't much matter to me directly, since I don't work in
the NAS vendor industry. It would just make my life working with and
consulting on RADIUS that much easier if they straightened out Ascend.
