RE: (ASCEND) Cisco 1720 connection to Pipeline 400

The Cisco insists on the called party also to CHAP which Ascend does not support.
Fortunately you can change this on the CISCO side by adding/modifying
the IOS statement
ppp authentication chap
to
ppp authentication chap callin

It works with IOS 10.2 and later.

For general help with CISCO configurations look at

I simple PPP trace of a connection should sort you out.
Set PPP debug on at one end and see what appears.
Whichever end is not complying with the RFC is to blame, or it might
just be PPP negotiations not agreeing on something.
Cheers

Unfortunately, the Cisco 1720 is continuously "flapping" the connection wiht the Pipeline. It does eventually come up but only stays up for short periods of time before the connection drops. I've had the Cisco TAC and the ISP in a conference call but I continue to have difficulty. The ISP side has the Pipeline 400, my customer has the Cisco.
