The problem is in the archetypes, of all obscure places.
What you need to do is edit the archetypes file,
find the archetype 'map' (there should be only one)
you can search for Object map
I think, or just "map", and
change the 'slaying xxxxxxx'
line just afterward to
be 'slaying <some good starting map in the maps dir>'

All new players will appear in that map.
