I just got an internal Plextor x8/x20 SCSI CD-R and it is just awesome.

past week. Under X, playing q3test, compiling stuff, this thing cannot be
phased. The only bad CD was one I pressed Ctrl-C on while writing. I don't
know if it's the CD's 4MB buffer, my fast CPU, the Adaptec 2490 or Linux,
but it is just rock-solid reliable so far.
The only problem I have with it is that it has some trouble reading audio
CDs at high-speed if they have some elaborate artwork on the CD itself.
Apparently this makes the CD unbalanced, and I can't find a command to
tell cdparanoia to read SLOWER.
Oh, and I can't boot from it, but that's my machine hanging after the
adaptec tries to shift drive letters on my non-existant floppy drives...
