Well I learned from you.

BTW, can anyone explain what the System.map is? Is it my imagination or
did this appear with 2.2.x?

If I don't copy /usr/src/linux/System.map to /boot when I compile a new
kernel, the system complains about mis-matched System.map's or something.
I've started doing a

# cp /usr/src/linux/System.map /boot/System.map-2.2.foo

and redoing the symlink in /boot for System.map to point it at my new
System.map-2.2.foo.
