So, how do you get around this limitation.

When you have 20+ classes in a fairly deep directory, the char counts adds up
quickly.

/usr/lib/classes/foo1.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo2.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo3.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo4.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo5.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo6.jar
/usr/lib/classes/foo7.jar
...
..
