Mediaone & bootpc

Gang,

I just switched from Mediaone's one-way cable to their two way service and
have encountered a couple of "interesting" phenomonia.

Mediaone's two-way service hands out IP addresses via dhcp. I use tcpwrappers
and, about every 10 minutes while I'm "connected", I'm seeing 4 successive
attempts to connect to my machine using bootpc (one about every 4 seconds)
from the next machine up the traceroute tree. Like, what's the deal with
that?

Secondly, I use "usernet" to manage ip connections while on-line. How come
I can _only_ connect to Mediaone via dhcp if I fire up the connection during
booting, but not via usernet?

Obviously, not a networking wizard'idly,

-S
