HTML email on a list?

Are you friggin nuts?  What reason would you ever have for creating HTML
email?  Yes, it is more portable and useable than RTF, but what's wrong
with text?  I see no complelling reason to use or promote HTML email.
Before you know it, people will be sending HTML mail with tons of GIF
attachments to email lists and mass emails.  I'm sorry, but I don't buy
it.
