Qpopper and Kerberos

I saw on freshmeat the release of Qpopper that supports Kerberos, which is
cool. But, does that mean that your pop-client must support Kerberos?

What advantage does a pop-server with Kerberos support give you if your
pop-clients are still stupid and sent clear-text username and passwords?
