RE: [TCLUG:9741] PPP redial problem

So far I haven't had much luck trying to fix this problem (mentioned below).
Does anyone have a script that checks to see if the connection is up and
then runs 'ifup ppp0' if the connection is down?

Right now I have just setup a cron job to disconnect and reconnect every
hour (since I'm not sure what else to do).

Thanks,

Jen

Subject: [TCLUG:9741] PPP redial problem

I've been away from the list for awhile but I did a reinstall of Linux this
weekend and sure enough problems came up. :) I'm hoping someone here my
have an idea on what my problem could be.

Anyways, this weekend I re-installed Red Hat 5.0 and then decided to
upgraded to 6.1 (I found it on sale after I did the re-install.
My problem is when the modem that has the ppp connection to my ISP
disconnects for no apparent reason, it is not re-dialing after the
disconnect. I have to manually type 'ifup ppp0' for the modem to redial.
Previously with my 5.0 install, the modem would automatically reconnect
after a disconnect. I do have a static IP and a dedicated modem connection
with my ISP.
I checked my settings and they look to be the same as what I had before on
Red Hat 5.0. I also went into LinuxConfig and the check box for reconnect
after a disconnect under PPP configuration is checked.
Any suggestions on what I should try next?
Thanks!!
Jen
