As simple as that sounds, it never occurred to me. I'm running the latest
Debian unstable, with the exim MTA (which has a sendmail wrapper). I currently
have it set up to use a smarthost, which passes it on to our company
mail server (which politely relays it for me, but we'd rather not keep
doing that). We've got a 24/7 connection, so there's really no reason
why I couldn't just send the mail directly, myself.

That's another good idea. I have a static IP address, so hopefully it
won't be a problem.
