Following up on that, I found a link to the SGI Freeware
CD: http://toolbox.sgi.com/TasteOfDT/public/freeware/2000Feb/index-by-alpha.html

This includes many GNU utils, INCLUDIG gcc, which wasn't able to run on
IRIX last time I checked unless you also bought SGI's C compiler. Nate,
when you get your box, do you might testing that?

In case gcc doesn't work, the CD does contain a HECK of a lot of stuff,
like KDE and Gnome.
