I wish there was..  I seem to have plenty of problems associated with
that (though I'm not sure).  If you have some backup storage or another
hard drive you can save stuff to for a short time, you could try just
using `dd' to write to the whole disk and (hopefully) force the disk to
map the bad sectors.
