I'd say the current level of traffic is above-average, but not totally unusual.
However, there's no need for you to read *every* message.

Generally speaking, about once a day I'll just group my Inbox "by subject" and
wipe out all the messages with subject lines I've lost interest in.  The
listserver's automatic thread-numbering comes in pretty handy here.
