RE: [TCLUG:15927] NeXT -changing root password

I've wanted a NeXT machine for a long time and finally ordered a NeXT
Station (Color Turbo). It has NeXT 3.3 OS running the 68040 / 33mhz with
32M ram, a 540M scsi disk, and 17 Color Monitor. Should get it next week.
I will share my notes and observations once I get it.

"For those who were curious about more details, it's a 25MHz 68040 with 16M
of
100 ns RAM and a 660M SCSI disk. The OS identifies itself as NeXT Mach 3.2
and I have 3.0 and 3.1 install media."

Others would recommend differently, but my choice on black hardware is 3.3
with all of the patches. I have the media, but if you call apple and give
them the serial number of the box they'll send you the Y2k fix for Nextstep,
which is actually the whole operating system.

"Now to go see if I can get networking cleaned up on it (i.e., ditch BOOTP
and
give it a static IP so it can talk to my other boxen) before the SGIs come
and I get to start the process all over again..."

I believe that's part of the FAQ, but it it's not I can write you
directions.
