Exactly!  Never rely on /. for valid news, because:

1) It's usually not valid.
2) It's usually not news.

I remember the Microsoft IIS4 "netscapeengineersareweenies" "backdoor"
that /. made a fiasco about - but didn't exist.

Slashdot is a moderately fun, mostly sensationalist website that often
has interesting news.  However, most of my tech news these days I read
hours/days before it gets to Slashdot.  Slashdot just keeps it all in one
nice place for you.  :)
