[OT - Hardware] DMA-33, -66, -100 silliness

I just bought a big drive that can work at UDMA/66 or /100.  I have a
/33 controller.  I plugged it in using a standard IDE cable, and got
nothing.  The system just hung on detection.

Do I need:

1. A UDMA/66 cable?
2. (1) and a UDMA/66 or /100 controller?
3. Mental help?
4. Fiscal help?
