X problems on laptop
Greet the sun all,
I successfully installed Debian potato onto my Compaq Armada E500.
However, I cannot get X up and running. I looked at the Linux on
Laptops site. Most of the examples had RH 6.* installations.
I am trying to use the generic SVGA server. I used the xf86config
(XConfigurator under Debian?) utility in an attempt to configure X.
However, when I start X, I receive the following:
System: '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/xkbcomp -w 1 -R/usr/X11R6/lib/xkb -xkm
-m us -em1 "The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:"-emp "> "
-eml "Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server" keymap/xfree86
compiled/xfree86.xkm'
Fatal server error:
Cannot open mouse (No such file or directory)
Anybody who runs Linux on a laptop have any idea if there is anything
special to get a mouse working. I tried both Microsoft compatible and
PS/2. Is there a special program for touchpad configuration? I had my
PS/2 pluged-in when I tried this.
