Sure...  Up grading packages is easy:

upgradepkg <package name>

If you want to upgrade the entire dist, you boot from your new installation
cdrom and then run pkgtool and pick all the new packages you want to upgrade.
You can also run some of their SlackBuild scripts and recompiling everything.
