Don't forget to factor latency for wandering backhoes...  
Suppose a backhoe cut the fiber line feeding the FedEx HQ, and they couldn't
properly route their packages!

        but over how long a distance? I remember hearing about someone going
3Tbps over fiber, a couple of years ago... but it was only 6" of fiber. :)
(i'm sure it's improved greatly since then).
