There's not much they can show you on a box that would distinguish *nix
and Unix-like OS's from each other. What they show you is pictures of a
gui interface, and sure, BSD and Linux can use pretty much the same set. 
BSD has a different development team which emphasizes different things --
I'm sure others can give you details about its advantages over Linux. 

I don't think it's as popular, but as you've seen on this list, there are
user groups, and probably a great community if you want to get into
it. But you should decide how many different flavors of unix-like OSs you
want to spend time on.
