Well, there is DocBook, which comes in both SGML and XML flavors, and
can be converted to a variety of formats, including HTML, PS, PDF, DVI,
and probably man and texinfo (not sure about texinfo). Nautilus, the
new GNOME file manager/browser will be able to convert DocBook to HTML
on the fly, removing the need for a (huge) properly configured SGML
environment.
