Re: [TCLUG:152] if (m_Windows95 + gpl_Crashing) { userBase++; } // ?

Yes, it is curios that people are willing to put up
with crashing and general instability. But that
truly is the way it is. Win95 is what they know,
use at the office, etc. Since that is their world,
leaving Win95 is venturing into the unknown and
their current support/social/work environment.
Remember that a large portion of the Microsoft
users don't know computers, they know applications
and Win95. All their friends and work associates
know applications and Win95. The data they work
with is squarely in that realm also. Now, it is
true that there some apps in the Linux realm that
can understand and create data files compatible
to varying degrees with their counterparts in the
Microsoft realm. But this is sort of a hit-or-miss
proposition right now. For example, Applixware's
word processor has filters to read and write Word
6.0, but not Word 7.0 files. StarOffice components
are data compatible with its Office95 counterparts
EXCEPT Powerpoint. StarOffice's presentation
software is compatible with Powerpoint97. These
differences can be a major hassle for someone who
requires full compatibility with other users who
generate their data in the Microsoft environment.
