There's a guy out there with a page about running Linux on Cyrix machines. 
It's located at http://www.tux.org/~balsa/linux/cyrix ...it looks like
that server is down tonight though.

One of the things I remember from it is that inexpensive motherboards are
more likely to fry with Cyrix CPUs than with Intel CPUs (regardless of
OS).  The result would be /random/ crashes that may not appear to be
related to machine load or room temperature.
