kernel compile problem

Hi everyone,

I finally got around to compiling a custom kernel of my RH5.1 setup
tonight (why can't I leave well enough alone?). Somehow my PPP and VFAT
support got a bit screwed up. This wasn't my first kernel compile (though
it was my first RH5.1 compile), so I know a little about what I'm doing.

Here's the sequence of events I followed:

in /usr/src/linux...
# make mrproper
# make xconfig
# make dep
# make clean
# make zImage
# make modules
# make modules_install
# cp arch/i386/boot/zImage /boot/vmlinuz
# /sbin/lilo

and rebooted.

I *did* include PPP support and not as a module. I know that VFAT was
compiled in too, athough I can't remember if it was a module or not.

The kernel boots fine, but reports in the boot messages that VFAT is not
supported in the kernel. I try typing /usr/sbin/ppp-go to connect to the
U. and it also causes a report that PPP is not supported by the kernel.

Any ideas?
