RE: [TCLUG:1781] DNS server timing out

Ok make sure you have a /etc/named.boot

;
; Boot file for OATH.NET name server
;
; type domain sourcefile or host
directory                                       /var/named
cache           .                               named.ca
primary         0.0.127.in-addr.arpa            127.0.0
primary         160.9.206.in-addr.arpa          206.9.160
primary         oath.net                        oath.net
;

;
If your named.boot looks more like bottom file and not the top you are only
configured as a caching server if you want a full blown DNS server find the
HOWTO on it.

; a caching only nameserver config
;
directory                              /var/named
cache           .                      named.ca
primary         0.0.127.in-addr.arpa   named.local

Hope this helps

Jon
