Hi Joe,

Welcome to TCLUG.

In addition to the find advice you've already received I'd like to add
one other little thing. My system at home is configured for dual-boot
with Win95. My modem (a non-PNP, no name brand) is configured for COM3,
IRQ 5 in Windows. This is apparently a non-standard IRQ for COM3 because
Linux won't dial the modem properly unless I create an rc.serial file in
the /etc/rc.d directory. Mine looks like this:

[wilson@localhost wilson]$ cat /etc/rc.d/rc.serial
setserial /dev/cua2 irq 5 spd_vhi

Once I make this change (and it is automatically set whenever the system
is booted), the modem dials fine.

I would also consider trying PPPSetup or X-ISP. PPPSetup is a little
script that helps you set up a good chat script. X-ISP is a more
complete package that allows you to configure your connection,
automatically redial dropped connections, and even keep track of your
online time. Both of these have worked well for me.

I'd love to get wmppp working. That's a dockapp for Window Maker that
does the ppp connecting. Perhaps someone could post their U. of MN
connection scripts. I know someone did that recently, but I accidentally
deleted it.

Later,
Tim
