Another hint ... I often amalgamate multiple entries that are close to
each other in time, often such that a commit has just one entry dated
for the time just before the commit.

Oh, and if I'm doing lots of stuff, I first do a "cvs diff -u" to a file
and review it, comparing it with my ChangeLog entry, then when I am
happy I do a commit.  Saves having debug code entering the repository.
