tools/players

Why does tools/players get called every so often?

I am looking at purify output and tools/players is being called and leaking
117 bytes for each call to it. Now, from what I can tell players is invoked,
does its thing, then exits, so the leak is nothing major.

I am more curious as to why players is even being called.
