(ASCEND) Multi-Max's...
Need some help and Ascend tech support has not been much help (then again,
it may not be exactly their ballpark) and the local Telco is clueless. This
is our setup:
ISP with mixed analog/ISDN users, mixed UNIX/NT servers, Cisco 2501 (10.2)
router, 3 Max 4004's, 1 Max 1800. (To handle bi-directional ISDN router
connections since an outgoing PRI call is charged by the minute, whereas
ISDN is not)
Class C (255.255.255.0) address block for central office equipment (LAN) and
IP pools for 3 Max4004's.
(One Max is all by itself, single PRI, 6-12 56K mod cards, different
PH#/hunt not really a part of this problem)
(A fully loaded Max4004, 6-12mod 33.6 cards, 5.0Ap13, 4 PRI's
using NFAS for a total of 94 useable incoming lines, mixed
analog using RADIUS auth, ISDN auth using built-in profiles)
(A new Max4004, 4-12 mod 33.6 cards, 5.0Ap13, 1 PRI 23B+1D)
Stacking is NOT enabled, we plan on the ISDN callers still all going to the
primary, fully loaded max. RIP/OSPF are NOT used, everything is static
routes using either Radius/profile built, or contained in a Cisco 2501
router that is the default route for all Max's, Servers, etc. (The ISDN
sub-nets (a different Class C with variable sub-netting) are all built
statically in the Cisco plus contained in the primary Max built-in profiles)
All the dial-up customers get assigned an IP address from pools on the LAN
class C block, all are defined as IP pool 1 with different start/count
numbers programmed into the respective Max (Not Radius). (This way all Max's
share a common radius users file, all users assigned to IP pool 1 yet the
pools are different address spans)
Now, we would like for the 73rd analog caller that calls into the primary
(fully loaded) Max to roll over to the new PRI/Max and let them connect.
Sounds simple enough except there still may be open lines in that first Max
because of the ISDN users also calling it (or not in this case). (There are
25 profiles currently in that Max, theoretically they could use 50 channels,
in practice they are using 10 with 15 the highest I have ever seen)
What in the world do I tell the Telco? (94 lines, but when you get the 73rd
analog, pass it on to the next (5th) PRI in the group and thereby let the
new Max answer it) They have no clue how to build the hunt/trunk group.
Ascend says this is all handled at the Telco side, it sounds logical. The
switch is an AT&T 5ESS. Has anyone else out there done this and had to hold
the hand of their Telco as well? If so.....HELP!
