sure enough, while running a ping flood (100p/sec) against the max
with the switch at 10M/HD I'd get about 1% loss,
with collisions showing on the max and on the switch.
changed the switch to 10M/FD and the collisions stopped on the switch,
but increased on the max, loss went up to about 3%.
