(ASCEND) New beta software
Ascend is releasing new beta software for the Pipeline, Max 4000 and Max
TNT. New MIB's are available as well. This represents the first beta
release of software under the new software release process. This new
process focuses on the reliability and stability of the embedded MAX and
TNT software through an improved regression test cycle in the Engineering
Quality Assurance team. Along with increased internal testing, we are
implementing a formal alpha and beta release cycle before general
availability of production release software.
Please be advised that this is not only beta software, but the FIRST
VERSION of beta software. This is not intended for use within production
networks. It has known feature and function limitations, and should only
be used in test configurations.
Please make sure to read the release notes and backup your configuration
before loading this beta software. In some cases, the release notes are
CRITICAL to the upgrade process.
There are a few significant benefits that we can accomplish with this new
software release process. They include:
1) Improved testing prior to production software. With a longer
regression testing cycle and formalized alpha/beta testing, the production
software available to the general public will have greater reliability.
2) Multiple levels of software installation policies. Since the major
releases are supported for an entire year, we can accomodate customers who
wish to standardize on the most reliable software available. With new
releases available every three months (major and minor), we can accomodate
customers who wish to implement the latest-and-greatest features available.
3) Feature roadmap and availability dates. With a time-based release
schedule, we can provide greater insight into the feature availability and
roadmap for future software.
