We had complaints from modem users (especially USR owners) about this even before 
we started using Ascend stuff. ISDN connections, to my memory, used to be 100% 
stable before 6.1.X. I'm quite certain that something in this regard got
broken on the way to 6.1.X (we never ran 6.0 on the Max4000, so I can't 
comment on that).

IMHO the latest 5.0Ap would be a good bet. If things don't magically change
within the next few days we'll certainly downgrade to 5.0Apsomething...
