I havn't used trumpet in a while but it used to be that 
if you edit its configuration while you are online
it will save that current address into its config,
resolved by setting the local address back to 0.0.0.0
and saving the config again.

Your maxen should almost certainly have
        Ethernet->Answer->Assign Adrs=Yes 
which _should_ require trumpet to accept the address offered by 
your side, if trumpet refuses that's another config issue alltogether.
