I'm using Cistron Radius on my Max4000, and it works quite nicely.

If you want to use Cistron Radius on your Max40xx series, you'll need my
patch to the existing checkrad.pl script:

I hope this helps someone else in need -- this multiple login thing drove
me nuts for days on trying to find a cheap (free) solution :)
