(ASCEND) Disconnect Code 185 .. possible solution for SOME users.
Hiya,
Having spent all day trying to get a customer's modem to keep from disconnecting
every three minutes, I noticed a few things.
Radius accounting showed disconnect cause 185 (remote end hung up).
However, the user's machine indicated that it was still connected.. just that
the modem dropped connection. (This using Win95 DUN).
As a test I ran it through trumpet and used the terminal emulator to get modem
diagnostics after disconnection.. I was intrigued to find that the disconnect
reason was DTR Dropped. This told me that the problem wasn't with the ascend
MAX, but rather with the customer's kit.
I did some digging around in their modem manual (the customer was using a USR
Sportster Flash) and found a few AT commands which did the trick.
Using this initialization string (even what looks redundant here has a purpose)
fixed the problem:
AT&F1&N0&S0
=Reset to Factory default using hardware flow control
=Set to negotiate connect rates automatically
=Force DSR to remain UP
Just a thought for anyone with customers complaining of being dropped every 3
mins... have them try this init string and see what happens... the fault could
be their modem, and NOT the MAX (as was the case here).
Cheers,
