Not stupid at all. LQM stands for link quality management. As far as I know
it is an optional part of the PPP protocol that controls the quality of the
link and, among other this, if low quality makes it necessary, takes measures
to end the connection gracefully. There appears to be a certain amount of
mystery behind Ascends LQM implementation, however I still have high hopes
that some day we'll find out more about the practical merits of LQM :)
