Re: (ASCEND) Lucent -=-> Ascend --> ? (fwd)

Once upon a time Tim Jung shaped the electrons to say...

SS7 is a global signalling standard, Ascend doesn't 'control' it. Lucent
and Nortel have been doing SS7 for a long time on their switches, and it
is being added natively to the PM-4 for example, and it is expected that
Nortel witll add it to the CXV-1800 and/or the Bay gear now that they are
taking over Bay.

Common Channel Signaling Version 7 (CCS 7)
Also known as Signaling System 7, this is an out-of-band network
signaling standard that enables call-handling information for traffic
over a number of trunks to travel between offices over a separate
channel common to the group of trunks served.

Sounds like the system developed in conjunction with XCom here in MA - I know
people who were working on that. The main reason Level 3 bought XCom was
for the technology, which has evolved into IPDC (IP Device Control).

Note that Cisco announced something similar in June - the Cisco Signaling
Controller 2200.

Nope. They don't need Ascend to do SS7 - they already do it.
