RE: (ASCEND) Clients using static IP Addresses

Marc,

I've seen something like this before with Bay Networks routers.
They have something called "Host Cache" which is actually a MAC cache.
I would recommend 2 things :
First verify that Ethernet -> Mod Config -> Ether Options -> Proxy Mode = Active
is set for each of your maxen.
Then set your 'Host Cache" to zero. But make sure, if it's Bay, that you
have rev/11.02/3 or higher as their MAC cache option had major bugs before
this release.
Now, each time the IP appears on a different MAX, the correct MAC will
appear in your routers' MAC cache.

Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Nelson Llabona

We have a number of maxes all in a hunt group. We use radius to assign
a
static ip to a caller when they dial in. If that user dials in on the
first box in the hunt, everything works great. If they happen to
disconnect and dial back in, but land on the second or third box, they
cannot route. The router on the network is holding an arp cache for
twenty
minutes and thinks that the caller is still on the first box until the
cache times out and gets a reply from the max the user is currently
connected to. Is there a better method for handling callers with static
IP
addresses? How low can I set my arp cache timeout on a router before it

will impact performance or cause a major problem?

	Any suggestions would be appreciated.
