(ASCEND) Pipeline Connection

I have a user that uses a Pipeline 75 (6.1.3) to connect to my Max4048
(6.1.7).
This setup has worked for a year with no problems.  Lately his
connection has
developed slowness and packet loss (50%) intermitantly.  I can telnet
into
his router and ping my 4048 with 28-30ns and no packet loss, but he
gets every
other packet lost when pinging my router from his machine and I lose
50-75% when pinging
his machine from mine.

The problem with clear up with no changes made and run great for
anywhere from 10 minutes
to several hours then develop the problem again.  Resetting the unit
makes no difference.
Any suggestions?

I have tried, turning all compression off didn't help.  He had been
running 5.? for almost a year.
The problem appeared so we upgraded to 6.1.3 and the problem is still
there.  Could this
be hardware related?
