(ASCEND) no modem signal

Hi,
did anybody have problem that I have? When I call the MAX 2024 there is no
answer from its modems. In the MAX status display you can see that the call
is connected but then I get no modem signal. If I reset the MAX then I can
dial in again and everything works fine but later after some calls the
problem occurs again.
Any ideas? Is this a matter of the hardware or software?
