I love solid things to try. I agree 100% with your placebo effect sentiment
(LOL)

...Yep, modem ringback is set to Yes in the problem box, and...

...Eureka!! It's set to No in the box that doesn't do it!!!

I'm going to change it now...

No tone!! YESS!!! Will, on behalf of all my customers, you're a hero!

(but I'm not going to tell anyone I changed anything ;-)
