Re: (ASCEND) Lots of routing entrys in a Pipeline
Thanks, but we've got the dsl lines coming in as frame relay connections.
Hadn't considered RADIUS. Hmm... every day, something new to consider. I'm
gonna be a waiter next, methinks :)

| You could define a RADIUS user profile with several "Ascend-Private-Route"
| entries or
| Ascend-Framed-Route.
|
| Here is an example RADIUS user profile for a RADIUS authenticated user who
needs
| a 32-IP subnet put into the Max that receives the call, and since we run
RIP, we
| announce this route via RIPv2 to the rest of our LAN:
|
| userid Password = "UNIX"
| User-Service-Type = Framed-User,
| Framed-Protocol = PPP,
| Framed-Address = 206.64.128.9,
| Framed-Netmask = 255.255.255.255,
| Framed-Routing = None,
| Framed-Route = "209.217.207.32/27 206.64.128.248 1 n userid 60",
| Framed-MTU = 1500
|
| I don't know if the DSL Pipe can support RADIUS authenticated users
however, so
| this information might be useless.
|
| Alternatively, if the DSL Pipe supports the RADIUS loading of static
routes,
| there's a section in the docs about specifying a route based on the
SysName of
| the unit. In other words, you would add a pseudo user profile in your
RADIUS
| users file, named something like dslpipe-route and in this profile, you
would
| specify a bunch of Ascend-Framed-Route entries. It would be loaded from
the
| RADIUS server on bootup of the DSL Pipe. Again, I don't know if the DSL
Pipe
| supports RADIUS, or even this feature. It's something to check out in the
docs.
|
| I wouldn't recommend enabling RIP _across_ the DSL connection between you
and
| the other ISP. If you start receiving RIP-announced routes from your
neighbor
| ISP, and they accidentally screw up a route that is announced by RIP on
their
| LAN, you will suddenly begin to route towards the other ISP. This could
open
| you up to a lot of problems
|
| Can Ascend comment on RADIUS authentication for the DSL Pipe?
|
| I know RADIUS auth isn't available in the Pipeline 50 U-BRI ver 6.1.7 load
| b2a.p75 ... So perhaps it isn't available in the DSL Pipe.
